Strategies on Teaching Basic Addition Facts
I am so excited doing this FREE Webinar on Strategies on Teaching Basic Addition Facts.
How did I start with this idea? I’ve been reading through the posts of fellow homeschoolers in the Facebook Group and some of the Moms are having a hard time teaching their kids addition. Some have been suggesting techniques on how they were able to do it. While some strategies work for others, some kids would need a variety of activities to achieve fluency in addition.
Here are some of the strategies that I will be mentioning in the FREE Webinar:
1. We can use ten frames.
Ten frames is a rectangle, separated into two rows with 10 equal spaces. You can use counters or any object and put it on each “box” as a guide for for counting or one to one correspondence. They make counting values simpler. Ten frames can also be used for composing and decomposing numbers in relation to 5 and 10.
For addition, ten frames are used by putting counters or objects of two different colors to represent a number sentence like the image below.
2. We can use a cube train.
Similar to the ten frame, you can use counters, specifically blocks or linking cubes even Lego blocks, to represent a number sentence. Numbers can be represented vertically or horizontally.
